Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning in Philadelphia
Dermaplaning is a technique that is safely performed using a specialized surgical instrument and disposable blades designed specifically for dermaplaning. Once the skin is properly prepped, the medical aesthetician holds the skin taut and gently scrapes the skin with the blade held at a 45 degree angle. Both the vellus hair and the top layer of dead skin cells are removed in this process.

What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning facials are a non-invasive way to rejuvenate and refresh your skin. The treatment is painless and leaves your skin feeling clean, clear, bright and smooth. When performed by a professionally trained aesthetician, dermaplaning is extremely safe.

How does Dermaplaning work?
This advanced facial provides exfoliation by our experienced medical aesthetician who gently scrapes away the top layer of your skin using a scalpel. The treatment removes extra layers of skin, helps correct pigmentation and provides a more youthful and healthy glow.

Who can get Dermaplaning?
All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning! Men can also be dermaplaned on non-beard areas only. Dermaplaning is performed on the face, under the chin and on the sides of your neck. Dermaplaning should never be done on the chest or eyelids.

Who is not a candidate for Dermaplaning?
Patients with active acne outbreaks or cold sores should not be treated until lesions are healed. Dermaplaning can help diminish acne scars but should not be performed during active outbreaks. Patients with bleeding disorders or difficulty clotting should not be treated. Patients with diabetes not under control by diet or medication should not be treated. Patients undergoing cancer treatment should also not be treated.

What should I know before Dermaplaning?
There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies. The thin, fine, soft hair that typically covers the entire body is called vellus hair. The course hair that grows on the head, face in men, underarms, legs and pubic areas is called terminal hair. When the vellus hair is removed, it is physiologically impossible for it to grow back thicker. It usually takes about four weeks for the soft, fine vellus hair to slowly grow back.

Is there any downtime after Dermaplaning?
No, that’s one of the benefits. The skin instantly has a healthier glow and feels much softer. Additionally, makeup glides on effortlessly for a flawless finish. If you are attending an important social event or television appearance, a dermaplaning procedure is highly recommended. You may see a slight redness or dryness following your facial, but this will quickly dissipate. You can use a moisturizer and sunscreen following your facial, and avoiding the sun for a few days is a good idea.

How long will Dermaplaning last?
Dermaplaning may be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. The treatment typically removes about 2 to 3 weeks worth of dead skin cells. The aesthetician should allow the skin to complete its normal skin cycle of approximately 21-30 days before repeating the treatment.
